Although Mathiatis is a small community, four churches can be found in the village. The largest and newest one is dedicated to the founder of the Church of Cyprus, Apostle Varnavas, whereas the oldest one, which is located in the entrance of the village, is dedicated to Agia Paraskevi. There are two more chapels, Panagia Galaktotrofousa and Agia Eirini Chrystovalantou, which adorn the village and reveal the deep religious faith of the residents of Mathiatis. Finally, there is also a derelict chapel dedicated to Agios Eftechios, which is being restored by the Department of Antiquities. |
